So many people ask me, what do I do about this bulging disk I have? What you may not understand is that a bulging disk is a normal process of aging. And by the time we hit our 40s, most of us have bulging disk. It's not necessarily a surgical problem. But if you have a bulging disk that is symptomatic meaning, that it causes back pain or that it causes leg pain, or leg numbness or weakness, then we need to look into treatment options for your disk bulge. And these would initially include some conservative approaches, like physical therapy and stretching. Medications like anti-inflammatories or muscle relaxers. And even some pain management modalities, possibly injections. If the conservative measures fail, and your symptoms weren't, you may be a candidate to have the disk bulge removed or have additional room made for the nerve around the disk bulge in the way of a laminotomy or a laminotomy.
