Hi, this is Dr. Sherri Stone from BioSpine Institute. Today, we are going to perform a hamstring stretch. In my opinion, hamstrings cause a lot of back pain and it's really important to have a little bit of flexibility with them. There's a lot of different ways to stretch the hamstrings. So this is some of the ways that work for me. We're going to stretch them first in standing. One way you can stretch, have an elevated surface, put your foot on it. Knee should be straight, toes up, back erect, and shoulders squared. Lean forward if you can. If not, hold the stretch. Hold these stretches for 20 seconds to a minute. Another way to stretch is leaning over onto an elevated surface. Again, your knees should be straight, your back should be arched, and you should feel a really strong stretch down into the hamstrings. Hold that position as well. Another way to stretch the hamstrings is in sitting. You're going to find a surface, sit through the end of it, have a stool in front of you. Again, sit up nice and tall. The back should be erect, knees are straight. Lean forward as far as you can without rounding your back. You don't want to round your back or your shoulders. This stretch should be felt into the back of the leg.

Another way you can stretch the hamstrings is laying down.

Hold one knee up, lacing your fingers behind. Straighten the knee and gently bring your toes down. Make sure your back is arched. Do not round your shoulders or your back and hold this stretch for 20 seconds to a minute. Having flexible hamstrings is really important to help alleviate low back pain. [UPBEAT MUSIC]
