Hi. This is Dr. Sherri Stone from BioSpine. Thank you for joining us. Today, we're going to learn how to do a proper squat. Squatting is essential because we do it all day long. We squat up and down from the toilet, in and out of the car, up and down from the dining room table. So to do a proper squat, we are going to start with our feet shoulder-width apart, shoulders squared, and back arched. We are going to sit on a surface that you normally get up from every day. Hinging from your hips-- your hips are here in the groin-- sit down, and then try to stand up without using your hands. You should be able to do this effortlessly because this uses our muscles against gravity. If you're unable to do this, try standing and just sitting, and then get up however you need to. And then for an added kick if this is very easy for you, get rid of the chair and then squat. Ultimately, you should be able to do 15 squats for good functional strength. [MUSIC PLAYING]
