This is Dr. Sherri Stone from BioSpine Institute. Today we are going to learn how to do a Plank. The Plank works a lot of muscles in our upper body as well as our abdominals and our low back. To properly do a Plank, go on a firm surface and start on your hands and knees like you're getting ready to do a push up. Keeping everything tight, straighten your knees one at a time and lift up and hold the position. You should be able to hold this for about 30 seconds. Your butt should not sag and your back should be straight like a table. If this is too difficult to do, decrease the hold or perform it on the knees. Again, your back should not-- your back should be arched, your shoulders squared, and your legs and torso should be in line. If the still is too difficult, come onto your hands and knees and just practice shifting your weight back and forth, or do on an elevated surface. [MUSIC PLAYING]
