What Is the Intracept Procedure?

The Intracept Procedure (radiofrequency ablation of the basivertebral nerve) is the latest cutting-edge technique that targets chronic low back pain caused by lumbar degenerative disc disease. Lumbar degenerative disc disease can lead to inflammation, edema and erosion of the vertebral endplates. The Intracept Procedure is a minimally invasive, same-day outpatient treatment.

How is the Intracept process performed?

During the procedure, a radiofrequency probe ablates the basivertebral nerve (BVN) to interrupt its pain signal to the brain. Patients are under anesthesia with the procedure typically lasting less than 30 minutes. Using next-generation Intracept Access instruments, predictable and precise targeting of the BVN is achievable.

How does Intracept help with my injury?

Specifically designed for vertebrogenic pain, this minimally invasive procedure offers long-term pain relief and improved function without surgical implants, thus keeping future treatment options open for other spine conditions.

What is the timeline for recovery and improvement?

Your medical provider may recommend some precautions immediately following the procedure, however many patients experience pain relief within two weeks. Clinical studies show the majority of patients experience significant improvements in function and pain relief.
