What are

What are
Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections (PRP)?

Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that harnesses and amplifies the natural growth factors found in our own blood cells to help recover from damaged tissue, injured tendons and ligaments, muscles, bones, and joints. PRP is a substance produced from the patient’s own blood. Once exclusive to professional athletes, now available to all.

How are PRP injections performed?

PRP injections are prepared by drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood. It is then spun down in a centrifuge to separate the blood into its various components: red and white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. The platelets are then mixed into a blood plasma liquid base and injected directly into the area of injury.

Understanding the 3-Step Simple Process

STEP 1 The blood is drawn from patient’s arm.

STEP 2 The blood is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet and plasma from the other blood components.

STEP 3 The extracted PRP is then injected directly into the affected area of the body

How do PRP injections help with my injury?

The activation of the concentrated platelets in platelet-rich plasma releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces. This significantly enhances the body’s natural healing process. PRP has been shown to expedite healing, increase blood flow, regenerate damage tissue, and decrease pain and inflammation.

What is the timeline for recovery and improvement?

Many of our patients see improvement within a week of their injection. Typically, maximum improvement will take place within 2 to 6 weeks.

Can PRP injections be used in conjunction with other procedures?

Yes….in many cases we will recommend PRP injections combined with a surgical procedure to aid in the recovery process.

Do PRP injections have side effects or risks?

Side effects of PRP injections are very limited because the injections are created from your own blood, and your body should not reject them or react in any negative way.
